R&D Q’s: How many Prototypes should I build?

More prototypes is better. Each one will improve the understanding of the idea.

Last year I wrote an article about spending your design/development budget on prototypes, not labor.

Prototypes don't have to be physical! Examples of prototype techniques:

  • Sketches and diagrams

  • 3D printing or rapid model

  • Works-Like model

  • Looks-Like model

  • Digital Wireframe

  • Role-play through VR/AR

  • Working model

  • Video prototype

Use prototypes to learn what works (and what doesn't) as quickly as possible.

Have a great day!
